Gérard Lemaître started his dancing career in Paris at the age of 11 and joined the "Netherlands Dance Theater" in 1960. He danced in over 120 choreographies. At the end of his career, in 1982, he was the creator of an idea that was to prove a sensational success - to found a group of dancers aged between 40 and 60. Jirí Kylián, artistic leader of NDT, liked the idea and asked Gérard and Sabine Kupferberg to found such a group (called NDT 3) within the NDT. What started as an experiment, has become internationally acknowledged. William Forsythe, Maurice Béjart, Mats Ek, Hans van Manen and Jirí Kylián, among others, give their views on this unique phenomenon.
Gérard Lemaîtres Tänzerkarriere begann im Alter von 11 Jahren in Paris. 1960 trat er dem Nederlands Dans Theater bei, wo er in mehr als 120 Choreographien tanzte. Am Ende seiner Karriere, 1982, schuf er eine Idee, die sich als sensationeller Erfolg entpuppen sollte. Er wollte eine Kompanie mit Tänzern zwischen 40 und 60 Jahren gründen. Der künstlerische Leiter von NDT, Jirí Kylián, fand Gefallen an dieser Idee und bat Lemaître und Sabine Kupferberg, eine solche Kompanie im Rahmen des NDT zu gründen. NDT 3 entwickelte sich zu einer international anerkannten Kompanie. W. Forsythe, M. Béjart, Mats Ek, Hans van Manen und Jirí Kylián schildern, wie sie dieses einzigartige Phänomen sehen.
