This is the first documentary retracing the life and career of the great ballerina Carlotta Grisi, who made her first appearence as "Giselle" at the Opera in Paris in June 1841.
The film explores the dancer's Istrian origins - she was born in June 1819 at Visinada in Central Istria (situated in today's Croatia). Her first steps into the world of dance in Milan led her to an outstanding career as a dancer, becoming one of the most famous ballerinas of the 19th century. After her retirement at the age of 34 in Geneva, unfortunately not even a trace of the great artist has remained.

Die Dokumentation ist der erste umfassende Rückblick auf das Leben und die Karriere der berühmten Ballerina Carlotta Grisi, die im Juni 1841 die Rolle der "Giselle" an der Pariser Oper kreierte.
Die Produktion beleuchtet die Herkunft der im Juni 1819 in Visinada/Istrien von italienischen Eltern geborenen Künstlerin und leitet dann zu ihren Ausbildungsjahren in Mailand über, wo sie den Grundstein für ihren steilen Aufstieg zu einer der berühmtesten Ballerinen des 19. Jahrhunderts legte. Als sie sich im Alter von 34 Jahren in Genf ins Privatleben zurückzog, hinterließ sie leider kaum Zeugnisse ihres Wirkens.
