“Art is the Form of a Content”.

The physical aspect of a work of art becomes a source of deep appreciation only when it is first conceived as spiritual truth. It is not a finely worked marble that is the object of perception, but the higher source and object of contemplation which we wish to understand and which we call the aesthetic work of art. Man is not merely a rigid robot; because he has become Man he should allow himself to be fully Man, not only in the flesh but in the spirit. The physical is only beautiful in the proportion as it approaches the ideal, which exists in the all universal mind of God.

It takes successive perceptions to approach the full work of art, that deep mirror wherein man may identify himself and nature in relationship to the Timeless.

’Kunst ist die Form eines Inhalts’

Der physische Aspekt eines Kunstwerks wird nur dann zu einer Quelle tiefer Wertschätzung, wenn er von Anfang an als eine geistige Wahrheit erfasst wird. Es ist nicht der penibel bearbeitete Marmor, der das Objekt der Wahrnehmung ist, sondern der höhere Ursprung und Gegenstand der Betrachtung, den wir zu verstehen wünschen und den wir das ästhetische Kunstwerk nennen. Der Mensch ist nicht nur ein rigider Roboter - weil wir Mensch geworden sind, sollten wir es uns erlauben, ganz Mensch zu werden, nicht nur körperlich sondern auch geistig. Das Körperliche ist nur schön im Verhältnis seiner Annäherung zum Ideal, das im allumfassenden Geist Gottes existiert.

Sich wiederholende Wahrnehmungen sind notwendig, will man sich einem Kunstwerk als Ganzes annähern – diesem Spiegel, in dem der Mensch zu sich und der Natur finden kann in seinem Wechselverhältnis zur Zeitlosigkeit.
