Shall We Dance?
The wonderful world of dance presented in 22 documentary films
A Festival organised by the Deutsche Tanzarchiv (German Dance Archives Cologne) / SK Stiftung Kultur (SK Cultural Foundation)
September 27th - 29th, 2004

The film camera opens up the world of dance. It focuses on the development of a piece of choreography, the rehearsal routines of a company or the everyday life of hobby dancers, combining interviews, observations, rehearsal shots, documents and archive material into a many-faceted image of the life and work of a dancer or choreographer. The film camera becomes the chronicler of dance. The cinematic works compiled in the programmes of this Festival, though, offer more than just a look "behind the scenes”, more than just entertaining documentation and information - they are also examples of a challenging cinematic reflection of that most transitory of the arts - dance.

Some films in this programme have German or French subtitles. The predominantly visual quality of their narrative, however, will guarantee almost undiminished enjoyment even to viewers who do not speak foreign languages.

The films will be screened at the Filmpalette – Lübeckerstr. 15 - D-50668 Köln
Organised by the Deutsche Tanzarchiv Köln / SK Stiftung Kultur
Film programming: Christiane Hartter, Thomas Thorausch, assistant: Stephanie Heise
