tanzmedial
A Foreword by Dr. Hans-Georg Bögner

tanzmedial thematizes the search for choreographic elements and structures in media art. For the first time in the Federal Republic of Germany an exhibition is presenting 14 international artists whose works focus on the connection between movement/dance and installation that put the implementation of new media at center. The project evolved from the successful cooperation of Deutsches Tanzarchiv Cologne with the Department Dance and Media of the SK Stiftung Kultur of the CologneBonn Savings Bank.

tanzmedial confirmed three statements:

• Today media art has established itself as an integral part of contemporary art.
• Today artists do not only work in one category of art. Having gone through multiple training they have at their command many talents and interests, or are consciously collaborating with artists in other fields. These border-crossing ways of working are integrated into the art works, resulting in expressive and innovative works.
• Contemporary media art can transport inspiring contents and forms, successfully utilizing the opportunities provided by the most innovative technologies.

tanzmedial disproved the allegation that media art is not sensuous by appealing to both, enthusiastic professionals as well as to general audiences of all generations.

tanzmedial has provided new and emotional access to an important field in our media culture.
